Water Safety 101

 All Teina enjoyed learning about water safety last Tuesday. We learnt what you need to do if you get into difficulties;

-go into the calm position,

-then put your hand up, DO NOT WAVE.

We also tried on the right size life jackets , what colour lifejacket  is best  and saw what happens when you wear a life jacket that is too big. We found out that it's law to wear a life jacket when you're on a boat ,a kayak, canoe and even a paddle board. LIFE JACKETS SAVE LIVES!

We also learnt how to huddle if we all fell off a boat.

Welcome back to School!

Welcome back to school!-Term 4

This Term we are being creative in writing with a program called Korero ki te tuhi -talk to write and is based on a an engaging teaching framework developed by Pie Corbett. Our first  writing is 'How to Trap a Dragon' to build our procedural writing skills.

Here are some of our dragons we created to go with our Friday Poem.

Room 6's window garden

Our window garden is looking good-seedlings will be ready to transplant into bigger pots this week I think.

Our Little garden Plants have grown that we potted them into bigger, individually painted pots to take home and plant!

Our Little Garden is sprouting.

 It has only taken a week and we have little plants sprouting. Room 6 have been making sure plants are looked after, watered and not touched. 

School Kit-My Little Garden

Room 6 received their school kit on Friday and with great excitement we opened it on Monday. We now all belong to the Little Garden Club and have a members badge and have learned our pledge of Grow Protect and Taste.

Winners of Mrs Burchell's maths week challenges from Room 6

 

Celebrating Maths Week NZ by estimating how many lollies were in the jar. The winners were Te AwaRere  and Kryzlah who were both within 10. Great estimating and hope you brushed your teeth well!!!

Maths

We really are having fun with number of the day-as you can see some of the tamariki are showing some great maths thinking.

Term 3

Welcome back to term 3 especially those Tamariki that have been away since lock-down. It is awesome to see you back at school. As you know we have relocated to Room 6 -location! location! location! It's warm and sunny and right next to the pool- roll on Summer.

Here are a few pic's from the Light Festival that the tamariki of Room 6 worked on at the end of last term. It really was a fantastic show and showed the hard work that all the tamariki of KWS put in.
